Irish conversation session (An Ciorcal Comhrá)

Just a reminder that there's an Irish conversation session on Thursday the 6th of June at 18:00 in the Dubliners on Järntorget.

Come along and learn a few Irish phrases, brush up on your "cúpla focal" or just have a drink and sit back and listen. It's the language of the future :)

"Colmán met with Star Trek crew members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana and decided to teach the lads some key Start Trek phrases in Irish.

(Bhuail Colmán le réalta Star Trek Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto agus Zoe Saldana agus chuir sé rang Gaeilge ar siúil le haghaidh na buachaillí.)"

Craic and Ceol this saturday (and workshops!)

There will me a mighty night of craic and ceol this Saturday evening at House of Win Win on tredje långatan where the Danish Irish folk trad group extrordinaire Tradish play a concert.

Their catchy music leaves no one untouched so this evening is highly recommended. It has been a few years since they were here in Gothenburg and played with us so we are thrilled to be hosting them on this weekend. The evening is arranged in cooperation with The House of Win-Win. The event program is scheduled below. More about Tradish, including music and video, can be found on www.tradish.dk

Earlier on Saturday, Tradish will also hold workshops for fiddle, guitar/bouzouki and bodhrán. Registration for the workshops is done via email to (workshop . timsig * se). More info as time and location for the workshops will be posted here as soon as it is available.

GIG-Irish film night on Wednesday, May 8th

A Cairde,

At the last GIG meeting on Wednesday, 17th of April, we decided to hold an Irish film night in the Haket pub on första Långgatan on May 8th. Mícheál has kindly offered to provide a choice of films to choose from.  I have created a doole poll, so that we can choose from 10 films. If ye could limit your choices to two films so as to make things easier that would be great.

We haven't decided yet as to whether show one or two films for the evening. There was a general feeling in the meeting that one film may be too short whereas two may be slightly too long. We could show a childrens movie prior to the main showing to accommodate families, or we could show a short movie prior also. Suggestions are welcome (there is a comments section in the doodle for any suggestions)

The below link is where your voices can be heard.
Looking forward to seeing you there,

Slán

Are ya coming to the GIG tomorra?

Gott folk!

Vi ses imorgon kl 19 på Haket for the third meeting of your favourite Irish association here in Göteborg. Since I sent the agenda out to the list last week one development is that there has been some contact with the Irish embassy in Stockholm where they have detailed for us how they can help out. All can be revealed tomorrow. I will print out a few copies of the agenda. As the plan is, after the meeting, we will adjourn
to another room at Haket where the TIMSIG Irish trad music session will be
in full shwing :)

GIG Meeting Wednesday week 17th April

Hello all,

attached is an agenda for the next GIG meeting. The items on the agenda
should be self explanatory. The meeting is being held in Haket to coincide
with the trad music session there. The idea is that after our meeting we
can hang out at the session. The meeting will be in the cellar bar, while
the session is in the side bar. That session is organised by TIMSIG and you
will smile when you see what that stands for. If GIG is to have legal status as a society in Sweden, we can learn a lot from TIMSIG about how
to do it. For a start we would need a constitution (see examples in minutes)
and then we need a board. See how TIMSIG have a five person board and a few
other roles as well. So we would need people who want to take on such roles.
Let me know by Wednesday week if you are or just come to the meeting and
tell us there.

See you next wednesday 7pm. Any questions, don't hesitate to email me, or forward this email to others you think are not on the list. I will post to the GIG facebook page too:

Thanks,
Slán,

Eoin

Irish conversation session II - comhrá Gaeilge na Goteborge a dó

Hi All!
This is just a reminder and to let those who aren't on facebook know
that we're going to have another evening of Fika and Irish chat at
språkcaféet. It will take place this Thursday, 21st of march at
17:30. Last months went really well so if you weren't there you are
more than welcome to come and try your hand some conversational Irish!
Fáilte romhat!

St Patricks Day event

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Just a quick note to cordially invite you, your loved ones and friends to an evening of trad music, dancing and Irish fare at the Portugeese Social Club, Jättestensgatan 9 1 tr, 418 72 Göteborg Friday 15th of March.
Fun filled and easy going is the general ideal.

The evening is from 7 till late.
A rough outline for the evening is as follows:
7-9 arrival, then arrangement/serving of food ( If we have any real fooodies out there dont be shy and bring one of yer creations along and add to our mini banquet)

After the food is finished at 9 we shall then embark on an evening of shenanigans that will hopefully make you laugh, feel warmly sentimental, start jigging and allow ourselves to be unashamedly tinted green.

Tickets are priced at 100 sek and covers all the evenings goings on. Please feel free to contact Kevin Higgins 0768778861, Billy Finn 0723704037, Paul Curley  0702679305 regarding tickets. Proceeds go to Gothenborg GAA Club.

Everyone is very welcome.

Comhrá - Irish conversation evening - språkcafeet Thursday 21st Feb

Hi!
Just sending out this for those who havent got facebook!

To all out there who want to converse in Irish (Gaeilge) We now have
an Irish language evening in språkcafeet in Gothenburg! The concept is
simple, a group sit around over fika and try their best to chat in
Irish.
The first evening will be Thursday the 21st of February, 17:30 and
will be co-ordinated by John McBride. John is a long time resident of
Gothenburg and is a language teacher and fluent speaker of Irish from
a Gealtacht in Donegal. You do not need to be fluent to come along, we
expect and want a wide range of levels from fluent to those who
haven't spoken Irish in ages or even those who are curious about the
language.

Fáilte romhat!
